Serial drunk driver caught thanks to WMW “Operation Zero Tolerance” sentenced to prison

kreutz2SENTENCING UPDATE May 8, 2014 –
Cindy Lou Kreutz, who also goes by Cindy Ridgeway, was sentenced to 33 months Thursday, the lowest amount of jail time she could get.

She pleaded guilty in March.

Her lawyer read a letter from her three children asking for leniency, and asked for her to not have to report to jail until next week, so she could enjoy Mother’s Day with her children. The Judge disagreed, and she was taken into custody immediately.

FUGITIVE CAPTURED July 21, 2013 –
Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested fugitive Cindy Kreutz on Sunday, less then 20 minutes after a 911 call came in from someone who saw her featured on Washington’s Most Wanted’s Operation Zero Tolerance Special.

“She was located in an RV motor home on a property on SE Horstman Road in South Kitsap along with two other persons in that motor home. One other person was taken into custody on unrelated charges. Ms. Kreutz was taken into custody on her four outstanding warrants,” Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputy Scott Wilson said.

kreutz

Kreutz appeared in court Monday and has another hearing set for Aug. 19.

“Somebody saw that TV special, somebody knew that she was located in South Kitsap and was able to provide us with what they thought was her location. That turned out to be true. It’s a perfect partnership and a great team effort,” Wilson said.

Kreutz is the 437th fugitive caught thanks to Washington’s Most Wanted’s viewers.

FUGITIVE WANTED July 19, 2013 — Cindy Lou Kreutz is a serial drunk driver that Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies want off the streets before she crashes again.

“She would be, to use the term, a classic case of a poster child for felony DUI,” Deputy Scott Wilson said.  “I hate to say that, but it’s true.  She’s got multiple DUI convictions including one involving a vehicular assault.”

Kreutz, who also goes by Cindy Ridgeway, has $400,000 in warrants for DUI and driving with a suspended license.

She’s been on the run since 2010, and deputies say it’s likely she’s still driving drunk.

“We’re dealing with somebody who basically thumbs their nose at the court system.  They’re going to drive anyway,” Wilson said.  “Any regulations or laws that are put into effect doesn’t seem to have any affect with somebody with this time of mentality.”

Kreutz had DUI’s in 2003, 2004, and 2005, and hasn’t answered for her latest drunk driving charge.

The last time she was arrested, Kreutz told officers she was drinking at home in Port Orchard, thenwent to a casino where she knocked back a couple more Vodka and 7-Ups.  That was in 2010.  Then she disappeared.

If you know where police can find Cindy Lou Kreutz, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. You will be paid a cash reward if your information leads to her arrest.

Bean bag rounds are no longer officers’ only less lethal option. Now there are dozens of impact rounds, launchers and sprays available to police officers.

Rick Wyant is a forensic scientist who has spent the past decade researching and documenting less lethal options for law enforcement.

“A lot of agencies are picking these up or have been using them for a while, and [it] basically gives you a baton strike but from a distance,” said Wyant.

Even though there are many options on the market right now, there’s no government guideline as to what police can use. That’s where Wyant’s research comes in.

“After the WTO riots, there wasn’t a lot of scientific data out there to support how these rounds affect people. What kind of wounds to expect. What kind of ranges. Are they safe at this range but dangerous at another range? So we started to compile some forensic tests data to test that,” he said.

Cutting edge breakthroughs include smart water that illuminates what it hits and the stain can’t be washed off.

“They call it a DNA round because it’s unique,” Wyant said. “The water in here is a unique mixture of heavy medals.”

weapons of the future 2

The water stays on the skin and clothes for weeks which gives law enforcement much more time to find their bad guys.

“If they’re wearing masks or they’re wearing hoods and we mark them with a round such as this, we can say not only do I think that’s the guy, you know that’s the guy.”

Then there are rounds designed just to smell bad. They can clear a crowd pretty quickly without leaving a lasting aroma.

This is just one more option in a growing arsenal of less-lethal weapons that Wyant is helping police understand better.

“So our goal with this book is to help police agencies understand the capabilities as well as the limitations of our less lethal devices to increase safety and effectiveness of when they are deployed,” he said.

WANTED BY DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS IN KING COUNTY –

A convicted child predator who persistently preyed on his victim is running under the radar in king county. Eric Stitt has been busted for assault, domestic violence, malicious mischief, and burglary,  but it’s his child rape conviction that he’s breaking probation on now.

“Over the course of a three-month period he provided the victim with drugs and alcohol, grooming her in preparation,” said Department of Corrections Officer Emily Isaacs. “Eventually had sex with her multiple times. He’s a homeless sex offender, which is of great concern. Because he’s groomed the victim in the past, we’re very concerned he could potentially do this to a future victim. We really need your help to find him and put him in jail where he belongs.”

‘May Day’ fugitives: Police need help finding three suspects from past protests

$

may day

This year’s May Day protests in Seattle turned wild as anarchists took to the streets of Seattle.

Police were out in full force using new tactics to keep the crowd under control. Now, detectives are looking back at video from that night to decide if anyone else should be charged.

A couple of Seattle’s superheroes, the red Power Ranger and El Caballero, got into a fight with some protesters marching through the streets.

Officers who were following along with them quickly moved in and separated the crowd.

“Only in Seattle you have a Power Ranger in the middle of it, trying to stop a fight on May Day,” said Ret. Det. Myrle Carner.

By the end of the night, bicycle officers had to race past a group of protesters trying to block off a bonfire they set in the middle of a busy Capitol Hill street.

In all, ten people were arrested that night. Still it wasn’t as violent as May Day protests in the past two years. Now, police are asking for help finding three suspects with warrants for vandalism and reckless endangerment.

During the 2012 protests, one of the suspects was caught on camera using a skateboard to smash through glass at Niketown.

“It was so much damage that they actually had to board it up for a few days. ‘This year, they even had to bring private security in to protect their windows,” Carner said.

may day (michaels)

Though he was covered head to toe, Seattle police have identified him as Jason Michaels and are now asking for the public’s help finding him. He’s not the only May Day anarchist police are looking to arrest.

“During the May Day situation in 2013, there is still one who has been identified but is still at large,” Carner said. “This is a case up at Walgreens on Broadway where a guy smashed out a window of the drug store.”

may day (foreman)

The suspect was wearing a pink hat and a pink bandana. Detectives identified him as Robert Foreman who now has a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.

may day (foreman 2)

Anthony Ryan is wanted for reckless endangerment and failure to disperse.

may day (ryan)“In this particular case, this suspect took his skateboard and physically threw it at an officer, a Seattle police officer. Fortunately it missed him, but what if it would have hit him in the head, or his somebody else?” Carner said.

“As you can see from this year’s May Day protest, Seattle police took no chances — arresting people before they could cause major property damage, but there are accused anarchists still on the streets and cops hope you can help track them down,” he said.

may day (michaels 2)

Police believe Jason Mchaels is likely in Oregon, but Robert Foreman and Anthony Ryan are still in western Washington.

WANTED BY U.S. MARSHALS –

U.S. Marshals say this fugitive is a high-risk child predator who’s living in the woods somewhere outside of Seattle. Officials say Kevin Crowder molested a 12-year-old girl in Clallam County.

Deputies say Crowder slips into the city when he needs supplies, to clean his clothes and possibly to look for his next prey.

Crowder is a level three sex offender, the highest risk to re-offend.

He is wanted on two federal warrants for failing to register, and by the state for breaking probation on his conviction in Clallam County several years ago.

“He has multiple FTR, multiple DOC violations. He was actually arrested in Montana by the U.S. Marshals back in 2009, and did 3 years in federal custody for FTR. Once again, Mr. Crowder has FTR’d and he’s a perfect example of why the Adam Walsh act was passed, that offenders cannot go from state to state to avoid registration laws without the U.S. Marshals looking for them,” said Chief Inspector Tom Lanier of the U.S. Marshals Service.

When Crowder was caught in Montana, he was living in a national forest near Bozeman.

He last registered as homeless in King County. Marshals say he is likely living out in the woods around Seattle.

Kevin Crowder is 55-years-old and has also been busted for illegally having a gun.

King County Sheriff and Council honor National Police Week

POLICE WEEKKING COUNTY — King County Council Member Reagan Dunn says Monday at the King County Council along with Sheriff Urquhart, they joined municipalities across the country in proclaiming May 12–18 National Police Week in recognition of the men and women of law enforcement who have fallen in the line of duty.

As part of the yearly celebration of Police Week, the names of officers lost in the line of duty are added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

King County is home to nearly 3,100 commissioned law enforcement personnel who serve and protect the residents and businesses of 39 cities, the Port of Seattle, three Tribal governments, the University of Washington and the 250,000 residents of unincorporated King County.

In 1853, Deputy Wesley Cherry was the first recorded law enforcement death in King County. A total of 95 King County based law enforcement have made the ultimate sacrifice, with 16 of these officers being members of the King County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2013, the Metropolitan King County Council unanimously passed legislation to study the creation of a King County Sheriff’s Office memorial to honor these fallen heroes. The memorial is now in the planning stages and a design is being chosen for eventual installation in the King County Courthouse.

Police Week is a time to remember all the work these dedicated officers do to keep our communities safe and to never forget those that tragically lost their lives in the defense of others.

WANTED: Bernard Bellerouche

WANTED IN FEDERAL WAY –

The U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force is working with Federal Way police to find accused killer, Bernard Bellerouche.

He’s accused of gunning down 22-year-old active-duty Marine George Gabrial on Tuesday morning in the parking lot of a Federal Way apartment complex.

Shooting victim and U.S. Marine, George Gabrial

Gabrial was shot while he was in his car just after 1 a.m. at the Mariposa Apartments on South 281st Street. It was Gabrial’s birthday. “Came back to visit his mom and family on his birthday, and his life was cut short, unfortunately,” Gabrial’s friend Jacob Goss said.

It was the second fatal shooting Bellerouche is accused of  in Federal Way within the past week.

On May 7, police responded to the 27600 block of Pacific Highway South and found 27-year-old Demario Washington fatally shot in an apartment building parking lot.  The two shooting locations are about five blocks apart.

victim 1

Shooting victim, Demarion Washington

“He was looking forward to a better life and it’s unfortunate it ended this way,” said Washington’s uncle Cyt Hardwell.

“Came up behind him (Washington) and shot him,” Hardwell said of the shooter. “We believe there was someone else involved as well that set him up to allow him to do that.”

Washington’s family says he leaves behind a wife and three young children.

Gabrial’s family says he had just gotten married a few weeks ago and was on leave — home to celebrate his birthday the very day he was killed.

“No one can really imagine that happening, especially on your birthday, especially with your wife in the car going to celebrate with friends and family, and then it’s cut short. It’s tough,” Goss said.

Bellerouche is also a person of interest in a shooting Monday night in Des Moines, where one man was shot and wounded.

Emotional reunion: WMW Officer of the Month surprises woman he saved

ofc of monthRENTON – Kittitas County Deputy Chuck Berg was honored as Washington’s Most Wanted’s May Officer the Month for his quick action in saving a Tacoma mother’s life at the Seahawks 12K race at the Landing in Renton on April 13th.

Sara Clerget and her family are huge Seahawks fans.  She, her mom and sister ran the team’s 12K race on April 13th but when she crossed the finish line, her heart stopped.  “I felt fine but the second I stopped that’s when I started to feel super, super dizzy,” said Clerget. The 35-year-old mother of a  two young boys had gone into cardiac arrest.  “Coming to grips with what happened, it’s still surreal, you can’t fathom, I died, I died for two minutes.”

Clerget was very lucky that day. Kittitas County Deputy Chuck Berg and his wife also ran the race.  “Me and my wife had just finished the 12K and we kind of high-fived and my wife actually noticed it first. She brought the lady to my attention. I looked over there and saw that she collapsed so we went over there immediately got down and ended up checking on her and could see she’s in cardiac arrest,” said Deputy Berg.  He teaches Advanced CPR and was able to save Clerget’s life.

Near the finish line in Renton on Wednesday, he surprised her with a visit.  “I was dead and he saw me laying there, he knew that I had no pulse and knew that I had no pulse immediately did what he knew to do. I mean I can’t thank him enough.” Clerget and her family had been in touch with Deputy Berg through social media but had not met him again in person to thank him. Sara’s mom Julie McKee was especially moved to tears.  She watched as Deputy Berg worked on her daughter. “They said, she’s taking a breath. It’s like you gave my life back to me so thank you, I can’t ever thank you enough,” she told Deputy Berg as she hugged him.

Clerget has a defibrillator and is doing well now. Next year, she and Deputy Berg plan to run the race together, then to compete for two minutes using CPR mannequins to draw attention to the importance of learning the life-saving technique.  The winner buys the other dinner.

During the WMW Officer of the Month award ceremony at the Washington’s Most Wanted studios in Seattle, Kittitas County Sheriff Gene Dana commended his deputy. “This is typical of Chuck. He’s well trained in CPR. He doesn’t hesitate to do things like this on or off duty so it didn’t surprise me a bit.” For his part, Deputy Berg added humbly, “Things work in mysterious ways so yes I was there in that time and place to run the 12K. I just got to help influence someone else’s life.”

Fighting back: New, non-lethal ‘TigerLight’ weapon aimed at fending off attackers

$

0

TigerlightSEATTLE – Already this year, three women walking alone in the Seattle area have been attacked.

In one, a still-unidentified man stalked a young victim in Belltown and then tried to rape her.

“When I went to walk past him, he grabbed me by my shoulders. That look in his eye, he was totally in predatory mode,” the victim said.

In another, two men followed a woman from the Federal Way Transit Center earlier this month, broke her jaw and stole her car.

And a woman in White Center was raped by a man who also stole her shoe-shaped purse.

All three victims fought for their lives.

It’s attacks like that those that Michel Teig, president and CEO of TigerLight Inc., hopes to prevent with a new device called the TigerLight Peacekeeper Mini.

Teig, who has seven daughters, says his company, based in Heber, Utah, was founded by his brother, who is in law enforcement, and who has long made flashlights with pepper spray available for law enforcement officers.

But they wanted to produce something that everyone could use.

They started an Indiegogo fundraising page and raised more than $50,000 to build the prototype and put the Peacekeeper Mini into production.

It has a hand strap so runners won’t drop it in a panic, it fires a powerful pepper spray, and it actually calls for help using Bluetooth technology.

“You have a daughter at school and she’s going from the library to her car,” Teig says, “and three guys stop her and want her to go with them. And they’re not going away. They haven’t attacked her. She hasn’t sprayed them, but she’s scared to death.

“She gives a little push on a button that alerts, that sends a Bluetooth signal through her cellphone, to phones of 200 other students on campus that are within a thousand yards of her,  and to her parents in a state who are 500 miles away, and her picture comes up on their phone with her exact GPS location and the time she pushed the button, the whole thing, and notifies she’s in trouble, and all of a sudden these guys are standing there with 200 students around them.”

And she can always fire the pepper spray, if necessary.

West Linn (Ore.) police Sgt. Mike Stradley who served with the Portland police for 25 years, says the law enforcement version of the Peacekeeper Mini has saved his life.

“What the TigerLight offers is a little bit of deception, frankly. They’ve got a light shined on them, and when the light dips out of their eyes, they`re going to reach in to see better, and they get sprayed. So, the reason it works better is because they don’t see it coming.”

The non-lethal weapon is also being used by members of “Operation Underground Railroad.”

Tim Ballard, a former Homeland Security Agent, says they enter dangerous areas in other countries to rescue children from slavery.

“We just got back from an operation. We saved 30 victims who were being trafficked. We dealt with five traffickers, three organizations who were trafficking children. We had to go undercover, me and my team. We had the TigerLight with us. It’s what keeps us safe,” said Ballard.

TigerLight is donating 20 percent of the proceeds of Peacekeeper Mini sales to “Operation Underground Railroad.”

Teig says they plan to start shipping out the devices in mid-September.

“Your grandma, your daughter, whoever, can very easily use it. It`s very natural. It’s probably the easiest device of its type you could ever imagine,” he said.

norwoodWANTED IN SEATTLE –
Seattle police need your help tracking down a violent felon on the run.

Christopher Norwood has been busted for a bunch of crimes like robbery, theft, and obstructing police.

He also has a long history of domestic violence, like the attack on his wife he’s wanted for now. “They got into a verbal argument,” says Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. “He actually grabbed her. Started shoving her around. He forced her against a wall and then he put his hands around her throat and choked her and it looked like she was going to go unconscious. A friend of hers was standing nearby. Found a knife and actually had to threaten him, saying ‘I’m going to cut you if you don’t let go of her.’ He did. Victim falls, actually has the presence of mind to grab her phone and dials 911, and he threatens her again and says, ‘If you complete that call, I’m going to finish you.”

Norwood took off before making good on this threat to kill her, and hasn’t been seen since.

Christopher Norwood is 29 years old.

He was last living on Rainier Avenue in Seattle, but detectives think he may have taken off to Texas.
